Acoustic Dividers For Home, School, And Office

There are many different reasons you may be in the market for a room divider.  What usually comes to mind is hiding something or someone visually. You may want to block a cluttered corner from sight or you may be seeking privacy screens behind which you can change clothes or study or sleep, hidden from everyone else.  However, sometimes sound is what needs to be blocked, and acoustic dividers will do this for you.  There are a wide variety of options when it comes to acoustic dividers.  Some are not at all attractive because they are not meant to be decorative; others provide some level of sound absorption while also being decorative.  Websites for stores like Home Depot and Lowes are a great place to start shopping.

One example of an acoustic room divider is the Origami Mesh 3-D divider.  Made from heavy felt, this waffle-designed divider hangs from the ceiling and provides sound absorption for a quieter home and to reduce feedback for a clearer musical or theatrical experience.  This divider is designed by Mary Ann Williams, and is offered at her website, illu-strations.com.  Orders are emailed to her, and no price is listed, as it will be custom made for your particular space.

Teachers and school administrators will love the Best-Rite Preschool Dividers available at Walmart.  The flannel model, item number BS1175 comes in two sizes:  three feet by three feet, and four feet by four feet.  Prices range from $134.99 to 214.99.  These partitions come in black, and can be used for instructional purposes or as an acoustical shield.  Inventory changes from store to store, but it is available at walmart.com.

The Woven Sliding Panel Ceiling Mount Room Divider opens and closes by sliding on a track installed in the ceiling and the floor.  Constructed of four woven panels, these privacy screens will absorb sound, muffling or muting noise from the other side of this divider.  The area will not be completely soundproof, but the divider will drop the decibels of noise substantially.  This product is available at theportableroomdividers.com, where it sells for $695.  Ikea manufactures a similar product which may be available in some of their stores.
